Windrush 75 – 2023
This year marks 75 years since HMT Empire Windrush docked in England carrying over 1,000 Caribbean passengers. These men, women and children played a pivotal role in rebuilding the UK after the Second World War and helped shape modern British culture and society.
To honour this anniversary year 6 have produced a wonderful pop up exhibition at Pakeman. Their work includes these fantastic commemorative stamp designs.
They have also produced great portraits of Jamaican freedom fighter, Samuel Sharpe.
Some children created posters with facts about the Caribbean and life on the islands.
They have also been reading and discussing Windrush Child by Benjamin Zephaniah.
