RE (Religious Education)
The Vision
At Pakeman Primary School, our vision for the religious education curriculum across EYFS, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2 is to foster understanding, respect, and reflection through a progressive and inclusive approach. Beginning in EYFS, children will explore their own sense of wonder and belonging through stories, celebrations, and sensory experiences that introduce them to diverse beliefs and traditions. In Key Stage 1, the focus will be on developing an understanding of key religious stories, symbols, and practices, encouraging curiosity and open-mindedness. In Key Stage 2, students will deepen their knowledge of world religions and worldviews, developing critical thinking, empathy, and the ability to reflect on their own values and beliefs in relation to others. The curriculum will ensure that every child has the opportunity to question, explore, and reflect, nurturing a lifelong appreciation for the richness of religious and cultural traditions.

How to help your child at home
To support Religious Education at home, you can explore stories from different religions and cultures, discussing their messages and values. Celebrate diversity by learning about festivals and trying related crafts, recipes, or music. Encourage curiosity by creating a space for open discussions about beliefs and traditions, and if possible, visit places of worship or cultural landmarks to experience them first hand. Simple conversations about values like kindness, fairness, and respect can also help children connect what they learn to their daily lives.
